I always tell couples to wait until the day before and even day of before worrying about the weather, because the forecast is often wrong and usually it works in our favor. But sometimes it just rains, and pours! It doesn't mean we still can't have a great and memorable time as evidenced here by this fun and a bit wet shoot with Crystal and Sam. They had the best attitude and went with the flow. We made a few adjustments to the timeline but still managed to visit all the locations they wanted to during the Documentary Day session.
We started out at their brownstone flat in the East Village and got coffee, one of their favorite things to do together. We cabbed it up to Central Park for the ceremony by Judie Guild at the Bethesda Terrace which is a great location for a rainy day. I brought along my double size clear umbrella to keep them dry so we could do some shooting as that rain did not let up at all. And it wasn't a sprinkle either! (My days working as a photojournalist having to shoot in all weather come in handy!) We visited Grand Central Station for lunch and more photos. We took the subway to give us some variety in transportation and also the couple likes the number 7, to the West Village. Finally the rain started to lighted up a bit and we explored some of the neighborhood and ended the session at Magnolia Bakery for cupcakes.
Rain and other weather does add some challenges and drama to an elopement or wedding day, but it makes for some unique photo opportunities and always keeps me on my toes!
